City 9 - Map in progress

Discussion in 'Mapping' started by Roby, Jun 26, 2017.

  1. I actually inserted this ambient_generic bioshock sountrack in the first corridor of the Underwater Nexus

  2. Quick morning update: Mostly finished the small-medium sized industrial factory to be used for work cycles.

Since most servers have a problem with Citizen RP, I've decided to adjust the map accordingly to the needs of Citizen RP. Here's a list of what the map will contain in it's playable first version:

    4+ plaza shops
    1 hair saloon
1 public pool and sauna ( ART DECO STYLE OFC)
Union-propaganda gaming arcade (inspired by the manhack arcade)
1 primary leisure restaurant/casino with stage in the plaza
*OPTIONAL* I might include a small gymnasium for boxing and matches like these between the citizens, where players can gather and place bets and shit
A small hospital ran by CMU
    Industrial factory
CWU HQ with a big scene for political rallies, religious UU-related sermons and/or just general meetings

Some of these listed things have already been incorporated, others will follow.

I really like the boxin arena/gym idea. It's a unique twist to an hl2rp map and gives citizens a lot more to do.
  4. Yeah, I think I'll incorporate it

i saw you were talking about brush limits earlier and i'm not sure if you've heard of Propper, https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Propper
it lets you turn any brushwork into a model with collisions if you desire and you just replace the brushes with the model and delete them and saves you a ton of brushes if you use it correctly
it's best used on stairs and arches and stuff like that
  6. Already tried to use it and I failed somewhere since it will refuse to create the model / or if it creates the model, the brushes have no texture so I decide to stop trying and just go old style.

Propper would've been a dream come true to me honestly as Art Deco requires visual detail on columns and all.

if you want to send me a request on steam i can try to help you figure it out, it's probably just some pathing issues
  8. Update

I changed the layout once again, this time it'll be the final change. I kept most of the buildings, just changed the streets and all as I wanted more alleyways and connections around each part of the map:

Here's the general overview of the 'plaza' (Yes I added a river)

This river's end has an art-deco waterfall

And this is the small ration distribution center

Oh, forgot to mention that with the help of a mapper named Tyrex, I've managed to succesfuly use propper which is a dream come true.

  9. Today's work: further plaza detailing and buildings changed and new ones added

Turn this on for maximum art deco vibes

Noticed these lamp posts along the river? They're models made with propper

With this new layout, there's a significat increase in verticality access, this is a picture from the catwalks connecting two slum blocks together, with a view down o nthe plaza

Here's the sign for "The Condor" restaurant and just to the right lies the entrance (I managed to succesfuly block the restaurant with areaportals, properly optimizing it). THe sign is a quick texture I've managed to pull up in photoshop quickly and put it in game. I might add more later when I start to put signs around the buildings.

  10. Updating with the public pool and sauna center + began the process of adding foliage around

Also, I added a donation link in the original post in case there are people out there that may like my work and would like to support me and my project.

I love the atmosphere of this map. It'll certainly give HL2RP a new feel and provide opportunities for servers to separate themselves from the crowd. I also love the focus on CitizenRP, which I say is a bit overlooked in maps or is done in a way that isn't necessarily adequate even though effort was put into making it good for CitizenRP.

that last pic looks like a perfect place for a bunch of anticitizens or some sort of "rebels" not lambda btw
some decals should be added asides graffiti on it though, but its sexy.
  17. Updating with some photos:

I'm in the process of finishing up the basic layout of the skybox as you can see here, I need to add glowing windows on the skycrapers and some small details

Here's what I had in mind to use instead of the outlands set: an underground complex of caves (below is just the area fit for citizen RP, mainly mining cycles and all, I tought it should add some diversity for the citizen RP. (ignore the shadows at the edges of the walls, they appear because I compiled the map using fatvis for a quick playtest)

Of course, there will be a separate cave complex section, basically a mini outlands set, should be able to accomodate not only rebel RP, but it can also be used by the players to accomodate OTA vs Antlions/zombies/whatever RP events and shit (gotta think about the masked guys too)
